Exercise is Medicine — Why we need fitness centers to reopen in Phase 4

Last week, we posted news pertaining to a last-minute Executive Order from the Governor, which put an indefinite halt on the reopening of Putnam fitness centers and movie theaters. Expecting to reopen in Phase 4 next week, these businesses, like many others, have been crushed financially by the pandemic. Now, with no end in sight, gym owners are speaking up to clarify and educate the public, their clients, and elected officials on the importance of fitness during the pandemic and how they are ensuring their facilities are safe, sanitized, and ready to help rebuild the community’s mind, body, and spirit.

Please watch our Leadership Forum hosted by vice chairman-elect Mike Bucci to get perspectives from local fitness center owners, Eli Capel, Elite Progression – CrossFit Mahopac, Joe Ciatto, World Gym Brewster, Krista Ferrara, FitBody by Krista – Brewster, and John Praino, Training for Warriors – Mahopac.

If you wish to offer feedback on this issue or you have additional questions, please contact Krista Ferrara at kferrara15@gmail.com. If you agree that gyms and fitness centers should reopen as planned next week, please sign the Change.org Exercise is Medicine Petition.

Are we on top of our biases, or might we be harboring some prejudices that lie outside of our awareness? This program will define unconscious bias and give us a framework in which to understand it. With numerous discussion opportunities, participants will explore biases, examine the conflict that arises between one’s natural inclination to categorize and the conscious drive towards diversity, look at how unconscious bias is measured and identify ways to overcome these biases.
