In 2024, the Putnam County Business Council is on an ambitious journey to revolutionize the way our community engages with business leadership and elected officials. With topics on the local business climate, economic development, workforce dynamics, legislative issues, and advocacy efforts, “The Voice of Putnam County Business” podcast – is the premier destination for insightful discussions, up-to-date information, and expert analysis on all things affecting our county’s business landscape.

Beyond the Podcast, we are proud to announce the creating of and annual “Voice of Putnam County Local Business Expo”, an unparalleled event featuring interactive workshops, roundtable discussions with elected officials, and a platform for networking and collaboration among business leaders. This expo is designed to foster the educational needs of local businesses, a deeper understanding of our local economy, identify growth opportunities, and tackle challenges head-on. Stay tuned for an Autumn event!

2020 has stretched all of us personally and professionally. Through it all, we are reminded that there is always a reason to be grateful, and the world in which we live; the people that we love; and the businesses we trust are not shielded from unexpected loss or disaster. For our part, this year has taught us valuable lessons about the Putnam County business community. This experience has prompted us to rapidly shift our priorities and expand the scope of education and support to those business sectors that have been severely impacted by the pandemic. The various programs and promotional campaigns that the PCBC initiated have educated and encouraged the community to shop and dine locally.

Our member-driven focus has served to quadruple our membership base in 2020. We are grateful, proud, and honored to welcome all of our new 2020 members! Please join us in celebrating new opportunities in 2021 and recognizing the true-grit efforts of our special business community.

Member Spotlight: Christopher X. Maher, Esq.

Director Level Member Christopher X. Maher, Esq., has been practicing law in Putnam County, New York City, and the Hudson Valley region for 35 years. The Maher family, starting with Chris’ father, Richard Maher, Esq., in 1953, has built a legacy based upon protecting and fostering the community’s confidence in the administration of justice.

A Carmel native and resident, Chris specializes in Personal Injury and Criminal Law. He was admitted to the Federal Court Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Putnam and Dutchess County Bar Associations in 1986. Chris has also been a member of both the NYS Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and NYS Trial Lawyers Association for more than 20 years.

The Law Office of Christopher X. Maher is an active member of the Putnam County Business Council and a stakeholder in the economic well-being of our community. The firm recently sponsored the PCBC’s Pre-Holiday Restaurant Rally in support of Putnam restaurants struggling to stay open through the pandemic.

Fifty plus years since her father and builder Herb Schech founded the company in 1969, owner Barbara Schech Freer has transformed the company from building pools into helping customers create a beautiful and healthy outdoor lifestyle.

We have retail experts and pool service technicians ready to maintain and expand your backyard retreat. We no longer install pools, but we are here for all your pool maintenance and patio needs!

Schech’s Pool Spa Patio services include pool openings and closings, weekly pool maintenance, hot tub valet service, salt pool equipment installation, small pool repairs, and pool equipment installation (pumps, filters, heaters).

An active supporter of the community, Schech’s has sponsored numerous non-profits and civic events over the years, including the Putnam Heart Walk, 4-H Fair, Mahopac-Carmel Chamber Spring Fair, and most recently, the Putnam County Business Council’s Pre-Holiday Restaurant Rally to help our struggling local eateries through the challenges of the COVID pandemic.

In that time, I have gotten to know many of you and your expectations as consumers. Putnam County Business Council (PCBC) Founding Member Marj Ciucci has been an influential voice, board member, and trusted advisor to the Business Council for the past 10 years.

Marj is a Senior Benefits Consultant with Lawley Insurance (Mahopac), a top 50 independently-owned insurance firm based in Buffalo, New York. Prior to joining Lawley in 2018, Marj headed up her own WBE-certified Insurance Brokerage, MAC Creative Plan Solutions for 17 years.

With designations in Long Term Care, Voluntary Benefits, Medicare Policies, and Group Disability Insurance, Marj works with clients of all sizes to design, shop, and implement employee benefit packages.

In addition to her service to the PCBC as a board member and C-Suite level leader, Marj serves on the board of The Westchester Putnam United Way.

Marj and her family, including husband Lou and sons Stephen and Joseph, are long-time residents of Mahopac. Her husband owns Grand Central Market in the Town of Somers.
