PCBC to Partner Against Racism with Programs and Education in Support of Business Diversity, Racial Equality and Tolerance

Are we really fighting against racism or just talking? 

The Putnam County Business Council advocates for ALL businesses in our community. As part of our stand against racism, we are recruiting community partners in law enforcement, the county, and other business advocacy groups, as well as partnering with the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of New York to support, educate and convey a message of racial equality, tolerance, and diversity in business.
As a first step, we will enhance our Board Leadership Training with the addition of a racial awareness education track to ensure that our board members are proactive in supporting minority businesses. Secondly, we will seek to build a more racially diverse board and membership base through inclusive programming. And thirdly, we will also provide opportunities for Putnam County Employers to receive the same training. It’s time for us to extend beyond racial equality rallies that have been peacefully supported by our top-notch Sheriff and local police departments and put actionable plans in place to welcome diversity in the community.

Reopen Putnam Safely Task Force Update

In addition to our updates in yesterday’s post, the PCBC Reopen Putnam Safely task force is compiling a second report for submission to the Governor’s Office in advance of Phase 4. Among other issues, we will be advocating on behalf of gyms, fitness centers, and movie theaters that have been left idling as their Phase 4 reopening plans have been indefinitely halted by the Governor.  

The Business Council acknowledges that public health and safety are always the main priority, and we respect the tremendous undertaking that the Governor is leading to reopen NY safely, but we question the lack of advance communication, clear guidance on timing or alternative fixes for these businesses.

Rob Astorino Announces Plans to Run Against Peter Harckham for Senate

Former Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, a Republican, has announced his candidacy for the state Senate seat currently held by Democrat Peter Harckham.

In 2018, Harckham won the 40th Senate District seat by defeating then-incumbent Republican Terrence Murphy. The district covers parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties.

According to biographical information on the Friends of Rob Astorino website, Astorino is a national affairs and political commentator for CNN, serves as Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s delegate to the Mother Cabrini Foundation and is a member of the board of directors of Everyone’s Earth Inc. Astorino served as Westchester’s county executive from 2010 through 2017.
